Smartphone users to double, 63% population to be internet users by 2023 in India

Smartphone users in India are expected to double by 2023 to 943 million from 404.1 million in 2017, according to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index (VNI)

The index predicted that 63% of the Indian population which is 943 million will be internet users by 2023, up from 30% of the population (357 million) in 2017. Also, smart devices will propel India’s per capita traffic consumption to nearly 15 gigabytes by 2023 from 2.4 gigabytes in 2017.

The report said that connected devices are expected to go up to 2.5 billion by 2023 from 1.6 billion in 2017 of which smartphones are likely to account for 41%, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 15.5%.

Predictions further included smartphone usage averaging to 18.5 GB per month, up from 3.5 GB in 2017.

Moreover, India’s IP traffic grew 55% in 2017 and reached 3.3 exabytes per month in 2017, up from 2.1 exabytes per month in 2016.
